Nothing Really New To Say

Kids.  Has been non-stop around here lately.  Juggling all the projects, bedtimes, to-do lists.  Riley has her geography bowl tomorrow.  Madi has three projects she is working on - or at least, that we're trying to get her to work on.  We're giving her ideas to help her and trying to let her do most of the work.  Which in and of itself, presents more work for us to do.  Guidance without doing it all.  She worked on her Alamo project and I had her take it in today to see if it is what Mrs. Campbell was looking for.  She told Madi that it wasn't up to her usual standards of excellence (she worded it differently, but told her that she usually does work that says "wow" and this isn't meeting that level).  We weren't surprised as not much time and effort went into it.  So she'll be doing more to work on it to turn it in on Thursday.  Good lesson to learn.

Madi had a good day today.  We went to Walmart to get groceries after work and then picked up the girls.  I made dinner, Jer and Madi talked with Poppi for a little while.  Got the girls to bed.  I had time with Jules and Madi tonight.  It had been a while since I read with her.  She's on 1 Corinthians 15.  Can't believe how far into the New Testament we've read.  She still asks great questions and just hoping that she's growing spiritually.

They have been talking about self-control at church.  Doing the things you need to do - not just the things you want to do.  Has been good.  Riley's been learning about trusting God.

All in all, a very very good day.  Just non-stop action.

We've started planning for Madi's birthday party for school friends.  She has one or two really close friends and then a lot of acquaintances that could develop into good friendships.  We priced out all sorts of things - staying at a hotel and going shopping, going to a huge indoor trampoline park, American Girl Store Tea... let's just say they were WAY more expensive than I had even imagined.  Most parties are a couple of hundred for girls her age.  The indoor trampoline park would be $23 a person for two hours of fun.  Did not include drinks, lunch or cake.  So it was a quick "no."

The hotel stay and time at the mall was going to be well over $200.  So that was also a "no."  As well as the American Girl Doll stuff.  Just way too expensive.

So we're doing a party here at home.  There are 15 girls she wants to have over.  So a total of 16 girls at our home.  They're all very nice.  We'll do pizza for dinner, an ice cream bar with various toppings, pancakes in the morning.  Trying to keep it inexpensive, but fun.  The girls can play Wii downstairs or watch movies upstairs.  We'll clear out the entire playroom and the girls can all sleep in sleeping bags in there.  We'll put everything (toys, etc.) in our bedroom.  Should be a very fun event for her.  The gift bags will have a cute crocheted hat and detachable flower clip - in the girl's favorite colors (went and asked each girl for their favorite color ahead of time).

Her party will be Friday, March 2 and the girls will be picked up around 10am on Saturday morning.  Then we'll go to Kathryn's Premier Jewelry party Saturday afternoon and celebrate there.  Looking forward to giving her a chance to get to know more of the really good kids at school.  As well as time with friends she is already close with.  She's been making much better choices as to who she is hanging out with which is really great.
