Now continued...

So the best part of the day (in my opinion) actually had to do with something that happened during LEAP today.  Madi was talking during class and was given two laps.  (that's not the good part)  The good part is that she didn't try to lie about it, I didn't have to ask her about it and she came right out and told me what had happened.  This is the first time this has happened and I'm hoping she noticed a different reaction from us.

When she told me that I would need to set up IXL for her so she could complete two sections because she was given laps in LEAP class, I told her that I really appreciate her honesty and that she made the right choice in telling me.  I thanked her for being honest and told her that I'd choose two sections for her when we got home while I had my piano students.  She finished the two sections in about 15 minutes.  Gave her place value and decimals - the two things they are working on in class.  Figure it might as well tie into what they're doing.

Yesterday she tried to get out of Fasttmath when I asked her if she'd done it.  She simply said "I think so" and hoped I wouldn't ask any further.  If she doesn't answer with a solid yes or no, I know to look further.  So I told her to pull it up so we could see.  And then she goes "oh - I guess I didn't do it."  And she then got it done.  It was soooooo nice to see that today she was honest about not doing it and honest about her laps.  It means that things are setting in and I'm hoping we're turning the corner on the lying or even the partial-I'm-trying-to-get-out-of-this-so-I'll-act-like-I'm-not-sure-when-I-know-I-haven't-done-it thing.

So good for Madi!!  It's awesome because in LEAP they are studying virtues and writing about different important virtues and talking about character.  They're learning about cultures in class and discussing what matters to them and what they find important.  How they are unique and how they are the same.  In church they're learning about thankfulness.  At home, we've had a lot of talks about character and living the right way.  And I have no doubt that Poppi had some talks with her while she was in Killeen (as she's told me so).

We made new checklists for her for in the morning and at night.  She's been needing so much reminding and the checklist system wasn't being used upstairs so we created new ones.  Has worked well and she's not forgetting things and we're not having to remind.  She likes to check off the list before doing anything so we'll work on that, but has been going very well.

So we're making some good strides lately.  This is good.

She told me that she's glad she went to school today because they had so much fun in LEAP and doing the experiment in science with mixtures vs. something else (can't think of it at the moment).  She also had gym and Coach told me that she worked as hard as usual and that she told him that she had the flu.  I had already told him she had a very slight fever and that I told her she could take it a little easier if need-be.  He said no problem and simply encouraged her to drink a lot of water.  He said he just smiled when she said she had the flu and then ran around.  :)

Her name was in the local paper for being on the all-A honor roll!  Hoping that continues this next six weeks.  She has one missing assignment that she can't find, but told me her desk is a mess.  I told her to ask Mrs. Campbell when a good time for her to clean it out would be.  She was doing work on the computer when the class cleaned their desks out a week or so again.  I had her clean out her backpack tonight (took all of two minutes) and get the eight books that she was carrying around out of it to free up space and weight.  Silly girl.

Tonight we had pizza for dinner, she took a shower, and is upstairs reading.  So glad she's feeling well. Riley is out again tomorrow - still has a fever of 101.  I'll be home tomorrow as Jeremy took today.  So glad it was such a good day for Madi!!
