At first the red curtain was closed for the overture, but once it seems like it should have opened it continued to stay closed. My mom turned to Madi and said "We were just kidding. We're really not here to see a ballet. We're just here to stare at a red curtain and listen to music." Riley kept asking "Where are the people? Are the people coming??"
We've been reading the book to Riley the last few nights and her eyes just lit up watching the dancers. They did a variation on how the nutcracker gets broken and Clara didn't have a brother. Riley kept asking "Where is Fritz? And where's the couch? And why doesn't the mouse king have a red crown?" Thankfully she was quiet about it in the first act. Second act, a little louder "Hey mom! What are those people? Oh - she's pretty. I like her. Is it over yet?"
The girls were really well behaved. Madi actually took a couple minutes of a cat nap during the Waltz of the Flowers (I always thought that song was WAY too long too). Both of the girls came out dancing and twirling. Madi said she loved it. Though she did say it was very dancy :)
Riley will probably be acting the whole thing out for the next few months. Absolutely loved seeing it!
