Madi had an ok last day. Her class was overly hyper, she got in trouble for something in her class that she did and the kids basically just cleaned up and got all of their stuff together. Spent time talking and doing who knows what. Didn't get to talk to her too much about it yet.
I did take a picture of her in the same spot that we had taken her picture on the first day of school. Will post it when I get a minute.
She'll be going over Kathryn's house on Saturday and spending two weeks with them while we get things ready for Lauren (our babysitter) and prep stuff for the cruise. We leave a week from today and will be gone for nine days (two in Boston, seven on the ship). Can't wait!!
Once we get back, we have a week until VBS at church and then swimming lessons and then church camp. Should be a very fun summer!!

Awards Ceremony
Madi had her awards ceremony with her class today. She had several awards. Every student in the class is given an award that is voted on by the class - one girl and one boy each earn the award based on the class votes.
Her awards were:
Six Flags Ticket - for participating in the reading plan for earning a ticket
Perfect Attendance
All A Honor Roll for having all A's
Class Award - Computer Whiz
Completion of Fourth Grade
FasttMath Multiplication Completion
I was able to have an aide cover my class so that I could see her walk across the stage to get her awards. Mrs. Campbell looked out to make sure I was there and I gave her a little wave since I was at the back of the crowd.
So very proud of her!! She has had a great year!!!

Tie-dyed shirts!
A few days ago, the entire fourth grade brought in white shirts and spent time putting rubber bands on them. Then went outside for over an hour to have extra recess and tie-dye their shirts. I had a break between classes so I went out to get some pics of Madi and her friends!

Last full week of school....over!!
We have two and a half days left of school until summer. Wow - that feels so amazing!!!
Madi had a pretty good week. Had some rough spots, but we all worked through it well. She had her final two projects turned in for LEAP and in the classroom. So glad to be done with those!!
Madi and I have had some girl talks lately. She is very easy to talk to and we've had some good laughs. I mean there's only so many ways you can make periods and development exciting while still keeping in the information she needs to know and leaving out the information she doesn't need to know yet.
One of the laughs was when I explained some girl stuff and then told her she'd learn about the boy stuff in her sex education section of class next year (they do a video and the nurse talks to the girls about things). She goes "Oh boy. That sounds fun. (totally sarcastic) I bet the boys won't be excited to know they have to learn about the girls." I laughed and Jeremy laughed as he was in the other room. I said "Actually the boys will be like "woo hoo! Boobs!! Boobs!" She started laughing too.
Madi has her end of the year party on Tuesday. They are walking to the park and then there will be this big inflatable water slide. They'll do a barbecue. Should be lots of fun!!

Family Pics 2012
My friend Jenny Harry took these pics of all of us and I can not remember if I posted them to the blog. Seriously thinking my iron levels are low as my mind can not remember half of what I have written on here!! So just in case - here are some!
Persevering to the End
Seven and a half days left of the school year. Kids have turned in their books. Not much is really happening during the school day. After school hours, I have tons and tons of meetings, clean-up, sheets to fill out, shredding of paperwork, and fifth grade graduation, etc... this is when it gets it hard to persevere. Because you just want it to be done so you can move forward. But it's also the time to give it your all because what happens at the end is the last impression made on these kids. And many of them I won't see again because they'll go on to middle school or move.
Madi had a good couple of days and a hard day on Friday. She's feeling that it's the end of the year as well. She is doing awesome with her Fasttmath work and her grades are doing amazing!!! So proud of her for working so hard these last six weeks.
She has two final projects - one in LEAP and one in Mrs. Campbell's class. I have come to dread projects. Because they end up being a source of frustration for several reasons. One of the main reasons being that the effort being put into them is very sub-par. Instead of really working to make it great, the time spent on it is as fast as possible with as little effort as possible. And then ugly looks arise when asked to spend more time and really think through what else could be said. And then the pout comes. When asked where the guidelines are for the project, we're told that she hasn't read them (though it is due on Thursday and has been being worked on for four weeks in class). Then she says she read them a while ago, but doesn't know.
You'd think we were totally out of touch with what is going on, but we've been watching and here the whole time. And it again comes down to that final stretch before it is due and the least amount of effort is put into it. This weekend our toner in our printer is out (go figure) so in order to print it, we need to get that taken care of. Not Madi's problem at all! Just - go figure. As it adds one more "ugh!" to getting it done :) I mean - couldn't it have gone out next week??!!
:)
So Madi and I had a tough talk yesterday about how frustrating it is when she knows she has a project due, forgets her flash drive in her desk, tries to finish the paper in three minutes (literally) at the end of Friday, and then gives me nasty looks when I tell her that she'll have to work on it this weekend.
She worked on it today and we'll be going over it tomorrow to make sure all is ready. Monday I have a meeting, Tuesday I have Julia's dr. appointment and Wednesday I have another meeting so helping her come along on it during those nights will be tough. So we're making sure she gets it done early.
Two more projects. Two more projects. Summer is coming! Hallelujah!!!

Talent Show 2012
It's been a fun week for Madi! She was able to perform with her friend Riley at the all-school talent show this past week. They sang the song "Safe and Sound" from the movie "The Hunger Games." Both of them have really beautiful voices and they did a great job. We found Hunger Games tshirts at Hot Topic so they would match. Madi also performed a dance with her Zumba class. Was cute! The teachers did a dance using glowsticks that created stick figures in the dark. I had a lot of fun with that :)
Here are some pictures - though many of them are dark, but I wanted you to at least see them.

Unplugged
Being unplugged from all electronics has been such a great thing (from our point of view). Madi has been more outgoing this weekend, has been kind to Riley and has played more with all of us. This morning we had the garage sale. The girls had so much fun!
This afternoon while Julia napped, the three of us hung out in Riley's room. I'm finishing up a sweater for Riley so I was in her room crocheting while the two girls were having a tea party with their American Girl Dolls. They shared clothes and took turns putting them on. Then they put them up for a little while and had some popcorn for a snack. The three of us hung out upstairs. Then we started talking about clothes for the dolls.
I got out my sewing machine instruction book - have had the machine since the fall, but had not had an opportunity to get it all set up and working. The girls came with me to the bedroom and hung out while I got it all set up. I let them press the pedal so they could help wind the bobbin. Madi is excited to learn how to sew and we told her that we can show her more things this summer so she can start making some items too.
Once it was all ready to go and I practice sewing a pair of shorts for the doll together, I went downstairs and looked up sales at Joann Fabrics. All of their McCall's patterns are on sale for $1.99 - much cheaper than the original $15.99 each pattern would have cost us. So I asked the girls if they would want to go get a pattern or a few patterns if they were available. Of course they wanted to! So I looked online for the pattern numbers so I wouldn't have to spend time looking through the books while managing three kids. Found eight doll patterns and off we went!
The girls were fabulous!! We found five of the eight patterns and have everything from coats to hats to booties to even dogs!!! I let the girls choose one outfit each that they wanted us to make first. Madi chose a cute top and pant set. Riley chose a top and pant set that has a little jacket with it. I called my mom to tell her about the awesome pattern sale at Joann's and she told me that she had finished the yellow bathing suit for Madi's doll (she made a red one for Riley's last week). My mom took our old bathing suits and cut them up to make them - they look sooo cute!!
I picked it up and then gave her the material and pattern for Madi's doll clothes. I'll be making Riley's while she does Madi's so it won't take us very long. It's awesome because the clothes are so small and each item takes hardly any fabric at all! Madi's doll outfit cost $3 total for 3/4 yd because the fabric was on sale.
Once we got home, the girls had so much fun playing with the dolls and Madi put the bathing suit on her doll. Then got some towels down to create a beach scene. Then girls posed their dolls and Madi took some pictures. Even added some red crabs... hahahaha
Was a great day! I loved how the girls interacted and played together and especially how they talked to each other and laughed.

Garage Sale!
The garage sale was a success this morning! The girls were able to sell cookies and muffins. No one bought the lemonade (was a colder, drizzly day). Madi made $24!! She's now close to $100 towards her iPad and doing a great job saving!
One man came by and purchased 10 cookies for $5! And then was kind enough to let us take his picture :)
